What are ADA Signs?
ADA signs are building signs that are specifically designed to provide people with disabilities the same access and functionality to business facilities as people without disabilities. ADA signs must present the same information to every person regardless of physical limitations.
ADA Parking Signs
Accessible parking spaces must be identified by signs that include the International Symbol of Accessibility. Signs at van-accessible spaces must include the additional phrase “van-accessible.” Signs should be mounted so that the lower edge of the sign is at least five (5) feet above the ground. This helps ensure visibility both for motorists and local enforcement officials.
ADA Offices Signs
Meet ADA requirements with cost-effective ADA-compliant signs and ADA office signs. ADA Braille signs are a cost-effective solution to helping guide visitors and staff throughout your facility while meeting ADA requirements.
ADA Braille signs are no longer only found at hotels, offices, and hospitals. If your facility has a snack area, a gift shop, waiting rooms, a fitness center, mail rooms or even a room for coats, the ADA specifies that you must install a tactile Braille sign.
ADA Wayfinding Signs
Installing ADA compliant wayfinding signs is necessary for a business to get their Certificate of Occupancy. Many companies don’t think about ADA signs until faced with a violation, yet they should. ADA compliant signs allow businesses to serve all clients regardless of ability. This accommodation is noble and serves the greater good.
Installing ADA-compliant signage will also keep your business safe from lawsuits or government fines. While the government does allow some time to correct any mistakes or oversights, a well-publicized violation could significantly damage the public perception of your business. If you’re unsure of whether an ADA sign is required, it’s best to err on the side of safety.
ADA signage is produced by several independent vendors, so it’s important to choose a vendor that is familiar with ADA guidelines.
